Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

Have you wondered how to make your grocery dollars stretch and enjoy the great fruits and vegetables from the farmers’ market?

The Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program may be the answer for local seniors.

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is a federal program that will provide checks for income-qualifying seniors age 60 and older to purchase locally grown fresh vegetables and herbs, fruits and honey at a local farmers market. To qualify, seniors can earn up to $1872 per month for one person.

Interested qualifying seniors may apply at any of the following locations:


Barton County Residents

Barton County Health Department

Monday, June 4 from 10 am to noon,
and from 1 pm to 4 pm

Thursday, June 7th from 9 am to noon

Great Bend Senior Center

Tuesday, June 5th
from 9 am to noon

Hoisington Friendship
Meal Site

Wednesday, June 6th
from 11 am to 1 pm

Stafford County Residents

Stafford County Health Department

June 12th from 9 am to noon

Additional dates will be announced

Great Bend’s Summer Street Stroll Farmers Market at Jack Kilby Square will participate in the Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program. Licensed farmers selling fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, greens, herbs, and honey are available from 4 pm to 8 pm every Thursday evening. This is a Chronic Disease Risk Reduction program of Barton County Health Department in partnership with Friendship Meals & ElderCare.
