Save on Prescriptions with a FamilyWize Discount Card

Many people arrive at Catholic Social Service because something happened in their life that they were not prepared to handle. Often, that situation involves unexpected medical costs, including prescriptions. Once they get behind, getting back on their feet is a physical AND financial challenge. The FamilyWise Prescription Discount Card is a good way to save up to 75% off of your prescription costs, regardless of your situation. Keep reading to find out more about this helpful program . . .
With one in five people in the United States living without prescription drug coverage, the goal of the FamilyWize Community Partnership, started in 2005 by Dan and Susan Barnes, is to reduce the cost of prescription medicine for children, families and individuals by $1 billion by the end of 2015. This is accomplished with a free FamilyWize prescription drug discount card which can save you up to 75% off of generic and brand name FDA-approved prescription drugs.

Here are a few more details:

The discount card is available to anyone. There's no application, waiting period, or fee. There are no eligibility, income, age, or residency restrictions. No personal information is collected.

The card is easy to get. Distribution of the FamilyWize cards is coordinated primarily by 1000 United Way agencies, as well as other participating community organizations. We have FamilyWize Prescription Discount Cards at all three of our Catholic Social Service offices, and they are also available at all three United Way Agencies in southwest Kansas. You can also click here to personalize and print your own card online. You can also text the word "Family" to 700700, and an electronic free prescription card will be sent to your phone to show your pharmacist.

The card is good at over 60,000 participating pharmacies and pharmacy chains including Walgreens, RiteAid, CVS, Walmart, Target, Kmart, Kroger, Safeway, Albertsons, Publix, Stop&Shop, Giant, SuperValu, Ahold, Costco, and Sam's Club.

You'll always get the lowest price. Your cost will be the discount price with the FamilyWize card or the pharmacy's usual and customary retail price, whichever is lower. You can expect to save an average of 8 times out of 10 over the pharmacy's retail price, with an average savings of about 35%, or $17 per prescription.

Say "thanks" to your pharmacist! FamilyWize acts like a huge consumer group buying service for the uninsured and underinsured. The discounts and savings on medications are provided voluntarily by pharmacies that have agreed to provide prices similar to what they give large insurance companies and employers. Funding for the FamilyWize program is provided by part of the dispensing fee that is included in the cost of medicines when a FamilyWise card is used to save you money, and by in-kind donations and reduced costs from the program sponsors.
