Senior Food Box Program Continues in Barton County

The Kansas Food Bank along with local partners Food Bank of Barton County, Barton County Health Department, RSVP, Hoisington Food Bank, St. Rose Health Center, United Way, Eldercare Inc, and Central Kansas Partnership are introducing a USDA program to help provide monthly food boxes to low-income seniors. The Commodity Supplemental Food Program will be available in Barton County to persons age 60 and above who qualify by meeting income requirements. Distribution will start in February. The next open walk-in enrollment day is Monday, March 12, 2018, from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the RSVP Office at 1025 Main St in Great Bend KS.

Interested seniors must fill out an application and provide the following: proof of ID, proof of income (Social Security Statement) and proof of address. Once approved, they will receive a monthly box and will recertify in six months.

The Kansas Food Bank will be scheduling appointments in Great Bend at the RSVP office, 1025 Main, on Monday, February 12th, 2018 between 9 and 11:30 am to register seniors for the program. Other appointments days will be posted here as they become known. To schedule an appointment, call Debi Kreutzman at the Kansas Food Bank, 316-265-3663. Applicants should bring all required documents with them. 

Completed applications and required documents can also be mailed to: Kansas Food Bank, 1919 E Douglas, Wichita KS 67211.

Food packages include a variety of foods, such as nonfat dry and ultra high-temperature fluid milk, juice, farina, oats, ready-to-eat cereal, rice, pasta, peanut butter, dry beans, canned meat, poultry or fish, and canned fruits and vegetables.
